Question 1

What is the difference between the Audi A5 Coupé, Sportback and Cabriolet?

Accepted Answer

The Coupé has two doors and a tighter rear seat, while the Sportback adds two rear doors and a large tailgate, which makes it the more practical choice. The Cabriolet has a fabric roof and a smaller boot.

Question 2

Is the Multitronic gearbox a problem on an Audi A5?

Accepted Answer

The Multitronic CVT was fitted to early front-drive automatic A5s and has a reputation for costly repairs once it starts slipping or jerking. Quattro versions used a torque-converter automatic or S tronic instead. Check for a smooth pull-away on the test drive.

Question 3

What Crit'Air sticker does a diesel Audi A5 get?

Accepted Answer

A Euro 5 diesel, broadly one registered before late 2015, gets Crit'Air 3, and a Euro 6 diesel gets Crit'Air 2. Petrol A5s from 2011 on get Crit'Air 1. The Euro standard is shown on the carte grise.

Question 4

Do early 2.0 TFSI engines in the Audi A5 burn oil?

Accepted Answer

Some 2.0 TFSI engines from the first A5 generation became known for high oil consumption, which Audi addressed with revised pistons. Ask whether that work was done and check the oil level when viewing the car.
