Question 1

What is the difference between the two generations of Audi A1?

Accepted Answer

The first generation, sold from 2010 to 2018, came as a three-door or five-door Sportback with petrol and diesel engines. The second, from 2018, is a five-door Sportback with petrol engines only and more space inside.

Question 2

Is the Audi A1 just an expensive Polo?

Accepted Answer

It shares its platform and engines with the Polo of the same era, which keeps parts easy to find. Where it differs is in interior finish and equipment, so compare what each car actually has rather than the badge.

Question 3

What should I check on an Audi A1 with S tronic?

Accepted Answer

The seven-speed S tronic on most A1s is a dual-clutch gearbox with dry clutches, and wear shows as judder when pulling away or in slow traffic. Test it from cold and ask for the gearbox's service history.

Question 4

Which Crit'Air sticker does a used Audi A1 get?

Accepted Answer

Petrol A1s get Crit'Air 1, while the first generation's TDI diesels get Crit'Air 2 at best. The sticker follows the fuel and Euro standard recorded on the carte grise.
