Question 1

Which DGT label does an XC40 get?

Accepted Answer

Petrol and diesel XC40s carry the C label and the B3 and B4 mild hybrids the ECO label. Plug-in hybrids get ECO or CERO depending on their certified electric range, and the fully electric version is always CERO.

Question 2

Is the electric XC40 the same as the EX40?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Volvo renamed the fully electric XC40 Recharge as the EX40 in 2024 without changing the car itself. Sellers therefore use either name.

Question 3

What should I check on a plug-in hybrid XC40?

Accepted Answer

The T4 and T5 Recharge combine a three-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and a battery charged from the mains. Check that the charging cable is included, that the car charges at a socket, and how its electric range compares with the figure when new.

Question 4

Is a diesel XC40 still worth considering?

Accepted Answer

The D3 and D4 diesels suit long motorway journeys and are economical, but Volvo dropped diesel from the XC40 after a few years. They carry the C label, so access to low-emission zones is the same as for a petrol car.
