Question 1

How often does a used Volkswagen van need the ITV?

Accepted Answer

A van registered as a light goods vehicle has its first ITV at two years, then every two years until it is six, and every year after that. A passenger version such as the Multivan follows the car schedule instead, so check the category on the technical card.

Question 2

Can I buy a Volkswagen Transporter converted into a camper?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but the conversion counts as a modification that must be approved at an ITV station and recorded on the vehicle's papers. Without that the van can fail its next inspection, so ask for the paperwork. A factory California is already homologated as it stands.

Question 3

Which generation is a used Volkswagen Transporter?

Accepted Answer

The T5 was built from 2003, the T6 from 2015 and the updated T6.1 from 2019, all with TDI diesel engines. The 2024 T7 Transporter is a new design shared with the Ford Transit Custom, while the 2021 Multivan sits on the MQB platform.

Question 4

Which DGT label will a diesel Volkswagen van carry?

Accepted Answer

Euro 6 diesel vans, generally those registered from around 2016, get the C label, and earlier Euro 4 and Euro 5 diesels get B. Vans without a label are increasingly shut out of low-emission zones in Spanish cities, which matters for deliveries. The electric ID. Buzz carries the CERO label.
