Question 1

Why does the previous owner's charging matter on a plug-in Volkswagen?

Accepted Answer

A GTE or eHybrid that was rarely plugged in has run mostly on its petrol engine, adding wear the mileage alone does not reveal. Ask how often it was charged, and check that the charging cable comes with the car.

Question 2

Which DGT label does a Volkswagen plug-in hybrid carry?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the official electric range: plug-in hybrids with enough range get the 0 emisiones label, the rest the ECO label. You can look up a car's label on the DGT website with its number plate.

Question 3

Can a Volkswagen Golf GTE be driven without charging it?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with a flat battery it runs as a petrol hybrid, but fuel use rises and most of the point of a plug-in is lost. It makes most sense for buyers who can charge at home or at work.

Question 4

Is the battery of a used Volkswagen plug-in hybrid still under warranty?

Accepted Answer

Volkswagen covers the high-voltage battery for eight years or 160,000 km, and the cover passes to the next owner. If the car is near that limit, ask a Volkswagen workshop for a battery check before buying.
