Question 1

Does a used Volkswagen TDI need the emissions recall?

Accepted Answer

Diesel cars with the EA189 engine, sold up to 2015 as the 1.2, 1.6 and 2.0 TDI, were called back for a software update and, on the 1.6, a flow straightener in the intake. A Volkswagen dealer can confirm from the chassis number whether the work was done.

Question 2

Which DGT label does a Volkswagen get?

Accepted Answer

A TSI petrol registered from 2006 and a TDI meeting Euro 6 usually get the C label, while Euro 4 and 5 diesels get B. Plug-in hybrids with enough electric range and the ID models carry the 0 label.

Question 3

What should I check on a Volkswagen DSG gearbox?

Accepted Answer

The seven-speed dry-clutch DSG (DQ200), fitted mostly behind smaller engines, can judder when pulling away or creeping in traffic as its clutches wear. Wet-clutch versions behind bigger engines need their oil changed at set intervals, so look for it in the service record.

Question 4

Is a SEAT or Škoda the same as a Volkswagen underneath?

Accepted Answer

Often, yes: the SEAT León, Škoda Octavia and Volkswagen Golf share platforms, engines and gearboxes, so the same checks apply. Comparing them widens the choice at a similar mechanical standard.
