Question 1

Does a Transporter registered as commercial go to the ITV more often?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A light commercial vehicle has its first ITV earlier and moves to annual inspections sooner than a passenger car, so check the category on the technical card and the date of the next inspection.

Question 2

What do I need for a Transporter converted into a camper?

Accepted Answer

Any conversion, such as a bed, a pop-up roof or extra seats, must be approved as a vehicle modification and appear on the technical card. Without that paperwork the van can fail the ITV, so ask the seller for the conversion certificate.

Question 3

Which DGT label does a Volkswagen Transporter carry?

Accepted Answer

Euro 6 diesels, from the T6 on, usually get the C label, T5 diesels mostly carry the B and the T4 generally has none. The label decides access to low-emission zones, which matters for a van making city deliveries.

Question 4

What wears out on a high-mileage Transporter?

Accepted Answer

Working vans often have worn clutches and dual-mass flywheels, which show as vibration when pulling away, and the TDI's particulate filter suffers from short trips. On Euro 6 versions, check that the AdBlue system shows no warnings.
