Question 1

Which Golf can drive into central Madrid?

Accepted Answer

In the Distrito Centro, cars with the ECO or zero label circulate freely, while B and C labelled cars without a resident's permit may only enter to park in a public car park. A Golf eTSI, TGI, GTE or e-Golf avoids that limit.

Question 2

What label does my Golf have?

Accepted Answer

Petrol Golfs registered from 2006 and diesels from 2015 carry the C label; older diesels from 2006 onwards get B. The rating can be checked by number plate on the DGT website, and the sticker is sold at Correos.

Question 3

What is a common weak point on a used Golf?

Accepted Answer

The seven-speed DSG with dry clutches, fitted to the smaller engines, can judder at low speed and should feel smooth in traffic on a test drive. Early eighth-generation cars had infotainment glitches that later software updates addressed.

Question 4

How is a private sale taxed in Madrid?

Accepted Answer

The buyer pays ITP to the Comunidad de Madrid, calculated on the official value for that Golf's version and age, and registers the change of owner with the DGT. Buying from a dealer, IVA is included and no ITP is due.
