Question 1

Which Volkswagen Caddy diesel engine is best to buy used?

Accepted Answer

The 2.0 TDI is the most robust choice and copes better with a loaded van, while the 1.6 TDI of 2010 to 2015 is adequate for light use. On cars built up to 2015 both belong to the EA189 family, so check that the emissions software update was carried out.

Question 2

How often does a Volkswagen Caddy van need the ITV in Spain?

Accepted Answer

A Caddy registered as a van follows the light goods vehicle schedule, which becomes annual sooner than a passenger car's. A Kombi registered as a passenger car follows the normal car schedule, so the technical card decides it.

Question 3

Does the Volkswagen Caddy diesel need AdBlue?

Accepted Answer

The fifth-generation Caddy, sold from 2020, uses AdBlue on its 2.0 TDI, which needs topping up between services. Every Euro 5 or later diesel Caddy has a particulate filter, which clogs on short urban runs.

Question 4

How is road tax worked out on a Volkswagen Caddy van in Spain?

Accepted Answer

A Caddy van pays the municipal IVTM as a goods vehicle, by its payload, while a Kombi registered as a passenger car pays by fiscal horsepower. Each town hall sets its own rates within legal limits, so check those of the town where it will be registered.
