Question 1

Is a used Caddy registered as a car or a van?

Accepted Answer

Both exist: the panel van is usually a light goods vehicle, while the Kombi and other passenger versions may be registered as passenger cars. The ficha técnica says which, and that sets how often the ITV is due and how the IVTM is charged.

Question 2

Which Caddy gets the ECO label?

Accepted Answer

The TGI versions run on compressed natural gas and carry the DGT's ECO label, a real advantage in low-emission zones. Diesel and petrol Caddys get the C or B label depending on their Euro standard, and the oldest diesels get none.

Question 3

What should I check on a TDI Caddy?

Accepted Answer

Ask whether a Euro 5 1.6 or 2.0 TDI had its emissions recall update, which a Volkswagen dealer can confirm from the VIN. Many Caddys have worked for a living, so inspect the load floor, the sliding door runners and the clutch as well.

Question 4

What does the Caddy Maxi add?

Accepted Answer

The Maxi has a longer wheelbase and body, so the van carries longer loads and the seven-seat passenger version has a more usable third row. The extra length makes it harder to park in narrow old-town streets.
