Question 1

Can an older Toyota drive into central Madrid?

Accepted Answer

Hybrids carry the ECO label and may drive throughout the city, including the Distrito Centro. Cars without a label, such as petrol models from before 2001 and diesels from before 2006, face tight restrictions across the municipality, so check the council's current rules before buying one.

Question 2

How common are ex-taxi Toyotas in Madrid?

Accepted Answer

Very: Toyota hybrids have long been a favourite of Madrid's taxi and ride-hailing drivers. A very high mileage for the car's age, a company or self-employed owner and frequent dealer services are the usual signs, and the DGT vehicle report lists every previous owner.

Question 3

Should I worry about a used Toyota hybrid's battery?

Accepted Answer

Toyota's hybrid system has a long record of durability. In Spain, servicing at the brand's network can extend the cover through its Toyota Relax programme, and a dealer can run a hybrid health check before you buy.

Question 4

Where is ITP paid on a used Toyota bought privately in Madrid?

Accepted Answer

To the Comunidad de Madrid, the region where the buyer lives, using the official valuation tables for the model and age. The DGT records the change of owner once the tax is paid; a dealer sale carries VAT instead.
