Question 1

Can a used Toyota hybrid enter Barcelona's low-emission zone?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Toyota's non-plug-in hybrids carry the DGT ECO label, and plug-in versions with enough electric range the CERO label. On weekdays the Barcelona zone only shuts out vehicles with no label at all.

Question 2

Is a former Barcelona taxi Toyota a sensible buy?

Accepted Answer

Toyota hybrids are widely used as taxis in Barcelona and often reach high mileage. They can still be sound, but check the service history, wear on the seats and suspension, and the health of the hybrid battery before agreeing a price.

Question 3

Who pays tax on a private purchase in Barcelona?

Accepted Answer

Buying from a private seller, the buyer pays ITP, the regional transfer tax, to Catalonia's tax agency; a purchase from a dealer pays no ITP. The change of ownership is then registered with the DGT.

Question 4

How durable are Toyota hybrid batteries?

Accepted Answer

Toyota's hybrid batteries have a good record for durability, and the official workshops offer a dedicated hybrid health check. Servicing within the official network can also extend the manufacturer's cover under the Toyota Relax programme.
