Question 1

Which DGT label does a Toyota hybrid get?

Accepted Answer

A self-charging Toyota hybrid gets the ECO label, which most low-emission zones admit. The RAV4 plug-in hybrid, with an electric range above 40 km, gets the 0 label.

Question 2

How do I check a used Toyota hybrid's battery?

Accepted Answer

A Toyota dealer can run a hybrid health check that reports the state of the high-voltage battery, so ask for a recent one. On many models the battery is cooled by air drawn through a vent near the rear seats, which should be clean and unobstructed.

Question 3

Is a high-mileage Toyota hybrid a good buy?

Accepted Answer

Toyota hybrids have a strong record at high mileage, with no starter motor, clutch or conventional gearbox to wear. The Prius and Corolla are common taxis in Spanish cities, so ask how the car was used and whether the battery has been replaced.

Question 4

What should I check on a used Toyota Hilux or Land Cruiser?

Accepted Answer

These 4x4s often work on farms and tracks, so look underneath for impact damage, at the chassis for rust and at the four-wheel-drive system for wear. A diesel built before Euro 6 gets the B label, which can restrict city access.
