Do I need a four-wheel-drive SUV in Spain?

For most Spanish driving, no: front-wheel drive is enough on tarmac and uses less fuel. Four-wheel drive is worth having for mountain roads in winter, unpaved tracks or towing.

Does an SUV pay more IVTM?

Each council sets IVTM according to fiscal horsepower, so a large-engined SUV can pay more than a small car. Many councils offer reductions for electric and hybrid models.

Which SUVs get the best DGT label?

Electric SUVs and plug-in hybrids with at least 40 km of electric range carry the CERO label, other hybrids ECO, and petrol models from 2006 and Euro 6 diesels C. With low-emission zones in force in many Spanish cities, the label is worth checking before buying.
