Question 1

Is a Skoda mechanically the same as a Volkswagen?

Accepted Answer

Most current Skodas use Volkswagen Group platforms, engines and gearboxes, the same TSI petrol and TDI diesel units found in SEAT, Volkswagen and Audi models. Parts and specialist workshops are therefore easy to find across Spain. Equipment and tuning differ, so compare like with like.

Question 2

What should I check on a Skoda with a DSG gearbox?

Accepted Answer

The DSG is a dual-clutch automatic, and the seven-speed dry-clutch version fitted behind smaller engines can judder when pulling away once it is worn. On the test drive, set off gently and crawl in traffic, and ask whether the gearbox has been serviced or repaired.

Question 3

Which DGT environmental label will a used Skoda carry?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the fuel and emissions standard: petrol cars from 2006 onwards and Euro 6 diesels get the C label, while older diesels get B or none. The electric Enyaq carries the CERO label, which counts in the low-emission zones of Spanish cities.

Question 4

Are many used Skoda Octavias former taxis?

Accepted Answer

The Octavia has long been a common taxi and fleet car in Spain, so high-mileage examples are plentiful. The DGT vehicle report lists previous owners; if a company or a taxi driver appears there, ask the seller how the car was used.
