Is a manual SEAT Ibiza better than the DSG?

A manual SEAT Ibiza is simpler and cheaper to keep, because it avoids the dry-clutch seven-speed DSG whose mechatronic unit can fail. The DSG is easier in traffic, but the manual is the safer used buy.

Which manual SEAT Ibiza has six gears?

On the sixth-generation SEAT Ibiza, the 110 and 115 hp 1.0 TSI and the 150 hp 1.5 TSI have six gears. The 1.0 MPI and the 95 hp 1.0 TSI make do with five, which means higher revs on the motorway.

What should I check on a manual SEAT Ibiza diesel?

On a manual SEAT Ibiza TDI, check the clutch and dual-mass flywheel, which judder or rattle at idle when worn. Only a Euro 6 diesel earns the DGT's C label; earlier ones carry B or none.

The manual is the Ibiza's usual gearbox: a five-speed behind the 1.0 MPI and the 95 hp 1.0 TSI, a six-speed behind the stronger TSI petrols. It avoids the dry-clutch DSG of the automatics, though a worn clutch remains the commonest bill.
