What taxes apply to a used car in Santa Cruz de Tenerife?

A private sale pays ITP to the Agencia Tributaria Canaria, while a dealer's price includes IGIC, the Canary tax that replaces VAT. The town hall then charges IVTM every year.

Is it worth buying a used car on another island in Santa Cruz de Tenerife?

It can be, but add the inter-island ferry and the trip to view it to the price. The DGT transfer is the same on every island.

What should you check on a used car in Santa Cruz de Tenerife?

Salt-air corrosion on cars kept by the sea, underneath and on the brakes. Make sure the ITV is in date too, as the DGT will not register the transfer without it.
