Question 1

Is a saloon's boot practical enough?

Accepted Answer

For luggage it often matches or beats a hatchback of the same size, since the boot is long and deep. The limit is the opening: a narrow lid and a fixed parcel shelf make furniture or a pushchair harder to load than in an estate.

Question 2

How can I tell if a used saloon was a taxi or VTC car?

Accepted Answer

Ask for the DGT vehicle report, which records the type of service the car was registered for and its earlier owners. Ex-taxi saloons are often well maintained but have usually covered high mileage.

Question 3

Which DGT label will a used saloon have?

Accepted Answer

It depends on fuel and Euro standard: petrol saloons from Euro 4 and diesels from Euro 6 get C, older ones B or none at all. Hybrids get ECO, and plug-in hybrids with at least 40 km of electric range get 0.

Question 4

Diesel or hybrid saloon for driving in Spain?

Accepted Answer

A diesel suits long, steady motorway runs between cities, where its economy is strongest. A hybrid is happier in town traffic and carries the ECO label, which keeps more doors open in low-emission zones.
