Is the Renault EDC gearbox reliable?

The EDC dual-clutch is dependable when its fluid and software are kept up, but judder when pulling away or hesitant low-speed shifts point to worn clutches or mechatronics. Test it in slow traffic and look for gearbox work in the service history.

How does the Renault E-Tech hybrid gearbox work?

The E-Tech full hybrid uses a multimode gearbox with no clutch, where the electric motor moves the car off and smooths the shifts. It feels different from a dual-clutch, with the engine revving under hard acceleration, and there is no clutch to replace.

Should I avoid older automatic Renault Clio and Mégane models?

The four-speed automatic in older Clio, Mégane and Scénic models had a poor reputation for failures. If you buy one, ask for proof of gearbox servicing and check for smooth, prompt shifts from cold.
