Which automatic gearbox does the Renault Austral have?

The E-Tech full hybrid uses Renault's multi-mode gearbox, which has no clutch and combines the petrol engine with two electric motors. The more powerful mild-hybrid version uses an Xtronic CVT, while the others come with a manual gearbox.

How does the Renault Austral CVT feel to drive?

The Xtronic CVT is smooth in town and holds simulated gears under acceleration, so it avoids the droning older CVTs were known for. Check that it pulls away without hesitation and stays quiet when cruising on the motorway.

Should I choose the E-Tech hybrid or the CVT on a used Renault Austral?

The E-Tech uses less fuel in urban driving and carries the DGT ECO label, which matters in cities with low-emission zones. The mild-hybrid CVT is simpler and suits drivers who cover mostly motorway miles.
