Question 1

Which Porsche 911 generations are air-cooled?

Accepted Answer

Every 911 up to the 993, which was built until 1998, is air-cooled. The 996 introduced water cooling, and the air-cooled cars now trade as collector pieces that want a specialist workshop.

Question 2

What is the IMS bearing problem on the Porsche 911 996 and 997?

Accepted Answer

The intermediate shaft bearing in many 996 and early 997 engines can fail and take the engine with it. Ask whether it has been replaced or upgraded, and for the invoice that proves it.

Question 3

Why is the road tax on a Porsche 911 so high in Spain?

Accepted Answer

The municipal IVTM is banded by fiscal horsepower, which is worked out from engine size and number of cylinders. A 911 falls in the top band, and each town hall sets its own rate within the legal range.

Question 4

Which DGT label does a used Porsche 911 get?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the registration date and emissions standard: petrol cars registered from 2006 generally get the C label and those from 2001 the B. Older 911s carry none, which can bar them from low-emission zones.
