Question 1

What goes wrong with the 1.2 PureTech in a Peugeot 208?

Accepted Answer

Its timing belt runs in oil and can break down early, shedding fragments that block the oil pickup, particularly when services were stretched. Peugeot has since shortened the replacement interval, so ask when the belt was last changed and whether the car has been using much oil.

Question 2

Do Peugeot 208 BlueHDi diesels have AdBlue problems?

Accepted Answer

Euro 6 BlueHDi engines inject AdBlue to cut emissions, and a failing tank or pump brings up a warning with a countdown, after which the engine will not restart. Ask whether the AdBlue system has been repaired and make sure no warning shows on the dashboard.

Question 3

Which automatic gearbox does a used Peugeot 208 have?

Accepted Answer

Early first-generation cars could have the ETG, an automated manual that shifts slowly. Later first-generation cars use the EAT6 torque-converter automatic, and the second generation has the EAT8, the smoothest of the three.

Question 4

Which DGT label does a used Peugeot 208 carry?

Accepted Answer

Petrol 208s get the C label, and diesels get C when they meet Euro 6, as every second-generation one does. The electric e-208 carries CERO, which gives the widest access to low-emission zones in Spanish cities.
