Question 1

Which Opel Astra generation should I look at?

Accepted Answer

The K generation, sold from 2015, is lighter and more efficient than the J it replaced. The L generation, from 2021, shares its platform with the Peugeot 308 and is the first Astra offered as a plug-in hybrid and fully electric.

Question 2

Can an Opel Astra diesel enter low-emission zones in Spain?

Accepted Answer

It depends on its DGT environmental label. Euro 6 diesels from around 2015 onwards usually carry the C label, while older ones carry B or none, and many cities restrict those in their zonas de bajas emisiones.

Question 3

Do I pay tax when buying a used Opel Astra from a private seller?

Accepted Answer

Yes, a private sale in Spain pays the Impuesto de Transmisiones Patrimoniales (ITP), set by each autonomous community, and the transfer is then registered with the DGT. Buying from a dealer, the price includes VAT instead and ITP does not apply.

Question 4

Is the Opel Astra Sports Tourer worth choosing over the hatchback?

Accepted Answer

The Sports Tourer estate has a noticeably larger boot, which suits families and long-distance driving. Engines and equipment are broadly the same as the hatchback, so the choice is mainly about space.
