Question 1

Who collects the ITP on a private sale in Murcia?

Accepted Answer

The transfer tax on a private sale goes to the region where the buyer lives, so a buyer resident in Murcia pays it to the Región de Murcia's tax agency. It is charged on the higher of the agreed price and the official valuation tables. A sale by a dealer pays no ITP.

Question 2

Does Murcia's heat affect used cars?

Accepted Answer

Strong sun fades paint and cracks dashboards and door seals, and air conditioning works hard for months on end. Tyres can age in the sun before they wear out, so read the date code on the sidewall. Rust from road salt, on the other hand, is rare.

Question 3

Do Murcia and Cartagena have low-emission zones?

Accepted Answer

Spanish law requires towns of more than 50,000 inhabitants to set up low-emission zones, which covers Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca and Molina de Segura. Access depends on the DGT environmental label, so check the car's label against each town's current rules.

Question 4

How does the ITV work in Murcia?

Accepted Answer

The ITV is the same national inspection across Spain, carried out at authorised stations throughout the region. A car is first inspected at four years old, then every two years, and every year from ten. The date of the last pass is on the windscreen sticker and the ITV card.
