Question 1

What is the difference between the Mini Countryman generations?

Accepted Answer

The first generation was sold from 2010 and the second from 2017, which grew in size and added the Cooper SE plug-in hybrid. The third, launched in 2024, is larger again and is offered as a fully electric car as well as with petrol engines.

Question 2

What should I check on a first-generation Countryman?

Accepted Answer

Petrol engines of that era are known for timing chain wear, which shows as a rattle for a few seconds after a cold start. Ask whether the chain and tensioner have been replaced, and look for oil leaks.

Question 3

Which DGT label does a Mini Countryman get?

Accepted Answer

Petrol versions registered from 2006 and diesels from 2015 get the C label. The electric Countryman gets Zero, and the Cooper SE plug-in hybrid gets Zero or ECO depending on its homologated electric range, so check the sticker.

Question 4

Is ALL4 worth having on a Mini Countryman in Spain?

Accepted Answer

ALL4 helps on snowy mountain roads and gravel tracks, but adds weight and fuel use in everyday driving. On the Cooper SE plug-in hybrid it comes from an electric motor driving the rear axle.
