Question 1

Can I drive a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter on a standard car licence?

Accepted Answer

Only if its maximum authorised mass is 3,500 kg or less; heavier Sprinters require a C1 licence. The figure is on the technical sheet, so check it before buying, especially on long-wheelbase and twin-rear-wheel versions.

Question 2

What is the difference between a Mercedes-Benz Vito and a V-Class?

Accepted Answer

Both are built on the same mid-size van, but the Vito is the working version, as a panel van or minibus, while the V-Class is the passenger MPV with a more upmarket interior. The Vito Tourer sits between them as a people carrier for business use.

Question 3

What should I check on a diesel Mercedes-Benz van?

Accepted Answer

Recent diesels use AdBlue, and a faulty sensor or pump brings warning lights and a countdown to a point where the engine will not restart. On older Sprinters, rust on the wheel arches, sills and underbody is the classic weak point.

Question 4

How often does a Mercedes-Benz van go to the ITV?

Accepted Answer

Vans registered as light commercial vehicles follow a stricter ITV schedule than passenger cars, with inspections becoming more frequent as they age. A V-Class or Vito Tourer registered as a passenger car follows the passenger car schedule instead.
