Which Mercedes models have a manual gearbox?

Mainly the entry-level A-Class, B-Class and CLA and the C-Class before the W206. The E-Class, S-Class and large SUVs arrived in Spain almost always as automatics.

Does the Mercedes A 180 d have a Renault engine?

Yes: the 1.5 diesel in the A 180 d and B 180 d derives from Renault's 1.5 dCi, a frugal engine. Parts are easy to find and servicing costs less than on larger Mercedes diesels.

What should I check on a used manual Mercedes?

On diesels, check the clutch and dual-mass flywheel: vibration at idle or a clunk when releasing the pedal points to wear. Select every gear and listen for noise or resistance in the changes.
