How can a foreign resident buy a used Mercedes in Alicante?

You need an NIE and a certificate of registration with the town hall to transfer ownership at the DGT. Make sure the car has Spanish plates and a valid ITV: a foreign-plated car must be registered in Spain first.

Where is ITP paid on a used Mercedes bought in Alicante?

In a private sale, the buyer pays ITP to the Valencian Tax Agency, based on the car's official value. A dealer sale pays no ITP because the price already includes IVA.

What should I check on a used Mercedes from the Costa Blanca?

On a low-mileage car only driven in summer, check the tyres' manufacture date and the rubber seals. Near the sea, also check the underside and the brake discs.
