Actions

Does the Mercedes A-Class come with a manual gearbox?

The W169, W176 and pre-facelift W177 were offered with a manual, a six-speed on the last two. The 2023 facelift went automatic only, so every manual A-Class on the used market dates from before then.

What should I check on a manual Mercedes A-Class?

Feel for a slipping clutch or vibration when pulling away, which on diesel versions can point to a worn dual-mass flywheel. A clutch replacement is a substantial bill, so allow for it on high-mileage cars.

Is a manual Mercedes A-Class cheaper to run in Spain?

A manual avoids dual-clutch repair bills and needs little gearbox maintenance beyond an occasional oil change. Fuel use and road tax are close to the automatic's, as the municipal IVTM depends on fiscal horsepower rather than the gearbox.
