Question 1

Can any used Jeep drive into Madrid?

Accepted Answer

Not all of them. Cars without a DGT label, such as petrol models from before 2001 or diesels from before 2006 like older Cherokees, are barred across the city, and the central special-protection areas restrict more. 4xe plug-in hybrids with at least 40 km of electric range carry the 0 label.

Question 2

What should I check on a Jeep 4xe plug-in hybrid?

Accepted Answer

Make sure the charging cable comes with the car, that it charges properly and that the electric range shown after a full charge is plausible. A 4xe that has rarely been plugged in still works, but uses more fuel and carries its battery as dead weight.

Question 3

What wear do off-road Jeeps show?

Accepted Answer

Wranglers and Trailhawk versions often spend weekends in the Sierra de Guadarrama, so look underneath for scraped skid plates and bent steering or suspension parts. On a Wrangler, also check the roof seals for leaks.

Question 4

Is it better to buy from a dealer or a private seller in Madrid?

Accepted Answer

A private buyer pays ITP to the Comunidad de Madrid, while a dealer's price includes VAT and no ITP applies. A dealer must also give a guarantee of at least one year on a used car, and either way the transfer goes through the DGT.
