Question 1

Do I need a DGT label to drive in Jaén city?

Accepted Answer

Spanish municipalities of more than 50,000 inhabitants are required to set up low-emission zones, and Jaén is one of them. Check the city council's current rules before buying an older car without a label.

Question 2

What tax does a private sale in Jaén pay?

Accepted Answer

The buyer pays ITP to the Andalusian tax agency, based on the official value tables for the car, and the DGT will not transfer ownership without proof of payment. Buying from a dealer carries no ITP.

Question 3

What does Jaén's summer heat do to a used car?

Accepted Answer

Long spells above 40 °C age rubber seals, dashboards, paint and the 12-volt battery faster, and the air conditioning works at its limit. Check that it cools properly, and look for cracked trim or faded paint on cars kept outdoors.

Question 4

Is a 4x4 worth it in Jaén?

Accepted Answer

Away from the A-4 and A-44, much of the province is olive groves, farm tracks and the mountain roads of the Sierra de Cazorla, so pickups and 4x4s are common. One that has been used on tracks deserves a look underneath and at the suspension.
