Is the Honda Jazz i-SHIFT gearbox reliable?

The i-SHIFT is a robotised manual rather than a true automatic, and it shows in the jolts between gears. Drive the car in slow traffic and check that the clutch and actuator have been serviced.

How does the Honda e:HEV hybrid gearbox work?

It has no gears: at low and medium speeds the electric motor drives the wheels while the petrol engine acts as a generator. On the motorway a clutch links the petrol engine directly to the wheels.

Does the CVT in a Honda HR-V need servicing?

Yes, the CVT fluid should be changed at the intervals Honda sets. Old fluid causes judder when pulling away, so ask for the invoice for that change before buying.
