Question 1

Which DGT label does each Ford Focus carry?

Accepted Answer

Petrol cars registered from 2001 get the B label and from 2006 the C. Diesels get the B from 2006 and the C once they meet Euro 6, from around 2015; the fourth-generation 1.0 EcoBoost mild hybrid earns ECO, and diesels registered before 2006 have none.

Question 2

What is the problem with the Focus PowerShift gearbox?

Accepted Answer

The PowerShift dry dual-clutch automatic fitted to many third-generation Focus cars is known for shuddering, slipping and clutch or control unit failures. Test it in stop-start traffic, and ask for records of any repairs or software updates.

Question 3

What maintenance does the Focus 1.0 EcoBoost need?

Accepted Answer

Its timing belt runs in engine oil and must be replaced at Ford's interval using the specified oil, as a degraded belt can block the oil pump pickup. Low coolant and overheating also harm this engine, so check the coolant level and any warning history.

Question 4

How often does an older Focus need the ITV?

Accepted Answer

Passenger cars in Spain take their first ITV at four years, then every two years until they are ten, and every year after that. The earlier generations are well past ten years old, so check when the next inspection is due and what the last report noted.
