Question 1

Which Fiats get the ECO label?

Accepted Answer

Factory bi-fuel versions running on petrol and LPG or natural gas, such as many Pandas and Puntos, carry ECO, as do the mild-hybrid Panda and 500 Hybrid. The electric 500e and 600e carry 0. The exact label can be checked by number plate on the DGT website.

Question 2

How reliable is the Fiat Dualogic gearbox?

Accepted Answer

Dualogic is an automated manual, not a conventional automatic, and its hydraulic actuator and clutch are the usual weak points. Drive it from cold: hesitant or jerky changes, or a gearbox warning, mean an expensive repair.

Question 3

Are Fiats easy to service in Spain?

Accepted Answer

Fiat has a long history in Spain, where SEAT began by building Fiats under licence, and independent garages know the Fire petrol and Multijet diesel engines well. Parts for the common models are easy to find.

Question 4

Is a Fiat Multijet diesel a good buy for town driving?

Accepted Answer

Usually not. Short trips stop the particulate filter on later versions from regenerating and clog the EGR valve, so ask how the car was used. For mostly urban driving, a petrol, bi-fuel or hybrid Fiat suits better.
