Question 1

Do I pay transfer tax on a used car bought in Ciudad Real?

Accepted Answer

On a private sale the buyer pays ITP to Castilla-La Mancha, calculated on the car's fiscal value. A sale by a dealer falls under VAT instead, so no ITP is due.

Question 2

Does the ITV for a Ciudad Real car have to be done in the province?

Accepted Answer

No, the inspection can be passed at any ITV station in Spain. Before buying, check the date of the next one on the technical card and on the windscreen sticker.

Question 3

Does Ciudad Real have a low-emission zone?

Accepted Answer

Spanish law requires municipalities of more than 50,000 inhabitants to set up a low-emission zone, and the city of Ciudad Real is one of them. The DGT environmental label decides access, which also matters if you often drive to Madrid.

Question 4

Is a diesel still a sensible choice in Ciudad Real and La Mancha?

Accepted Answer

For the long distances between towns and for rural roads a diesel remains practical, and many local cars have done most of their miles on the motorway. A diesel with no label, though, can be shut out of the low-emission zones of larger cities.
