Question 1

Is Citroën's 1.2 PureTech petrol engine reliable?

Accepted Answer

Its timing belt runs in oil and on many cars wears early, shedding debris that can starve the engine of oil. Ask for invoices showing the belt checked or changed at the shorter interval Citroën now recommends, and be wary of any car with an oil-pressure warning in its past.

Question 2

Which Citroëns are built in Spain?

Accepted Answer

The Berlingo comes from the Vigo plant, which also built the Xsara Picasso and C4 Picasso, and the current C4 and ë-C4 are made in Madrid. Spanish production keeps parts and experienced garages easy to find.

Question 3

How do Citroën's comfort suspensions age?

Accepted Answer

The hydropneumatic suspension on older C5s needs its spheres renewed over time and a garage that knows the system. The hydraulic-cushion dampers on the C5 Aircross and current C4 are conventional dampers with hydraulic stops and need no special care.

Question 4

Which DGT label does a Citroën carry?

Accepted Answer

Electric models such as the ë-C4 and ë-Berlingo carry the 0 label. Petrol cars from 2006 on and diesels meeting Euro 6 carry C, while older diesels carry B.

Question 5

Is a DS a Citroën?

Accepted Answer

DS was Citroën's upmarket line until it became a separate brand in the mid-2010s, so an earlier DS3, DS4 or DS5 may be registered as a Citroën. Mechanically they share parts with Citroën models of the same age.
