Question 1

Where is the transfer of ownership done in Castellón?

Accepted Answer

Transfers are handled by the DGT, either online or at the provincial traffic office in Castellón de la Plana. When buying from a dealer, the dealer usually takes care of it.

Question 2

Who collects the ITP on a private sale in Castellón?

Accepted Answer

ITP is a regional tax, collected by the Agència Tributària Valenciana for buyers living in the Valencian Community. If the declared price is below the official reference value, the tax office can apply that value instead.

Question 3

What should I check on a car from the Castellón coast?

Accepted Answer

Salty air attacks the underbody, brake lines and sills, especially on cars parked outdoors near the beach. A look underneath on a lift is worth it before buying.

Question 4

Does Castellón have a low-emission zone?

Accepted Answer

Spanish law requires towns of more than 50,000 inhabitants to set up low-emission zones, and Castellón de la Plana is one of them. Before buying, check the car's DGT label and the town's current ordinance.

Question 5

Is it worth looking in Valencia as well as Castellón?

Accepted Answer

Valencia is a short drive south and has a larger market, and a car bought there is transferred through the DGT in the same way. The ITP is the same regional tax, since both cities are in the Valencian Community.
