Question 1

What should I check on a car that has spent its winters in Burgos?

Accepted Answer

Look under the car and around the wheel arches for corrosion from road salt, and ask whether it ran on winter or all-season tyres. A weak battery and tired heating show up quickly in Burgos frosts, so start the car from cold before you agree a price.

Question 2

Where is ITP paid on a used car bought in Burgos?

Accepted Answer

If the buyer lives in Castilla y León, the tax goes to the Junta de Castilla y León, which values the car with official tables by model and age. Proof of payment is needed before the DGT records the new owner; a dealer sale carries VAT instead.

Question 3

Does Burgos have a low-emission zone?

Accepted Answer

Spanish municipalities of over 50,000 inhabitants, Burgos among them, must establish a low-emission zone, with access set by the DGT label. Check the council's current ordinance and the car's label by number plate on the DGT website.

Question 4

How do I transfer a car bought in Burgos?

Accepted Answer

The change of ownership is filed with the DGT, online, at the Jefatura Provincial de Tráfico in Burgos or through a gestoría, with the signed contract and the ITP receipt. The seller should notify the sale too, so that later fines and taxes do not reach them.
