Question 1

Does Valencia's coastal climate affect a used BMW?

Accepted Answer

Humid, salty air speeds up corrosion on parts that are not painted, such as brake discs, exhaust brackets and suspension components. Surface rust is normal, but flaking metal on the subframe or suspension arms is worth having a garage inspect.

Question 2

How can I tell if a BMW in Valencia was damaged in the 2024 floods?

Accepted Answer

The DANA of October 2024 flooded tens of thousands of cars across the province, and some have returned to the market after repair. Silt or rust under the carpets and seats, corroded seat rails and a damp smell are warning signs, and a diagnostic scan shows whether the electronics have suffered.

Question 3

Which BMW petrol engine has a known weak point?

Accepted Answer

The 2.0-litre N20, fitted to many 20i, 28i and similar models in the early 2010s, can wear its timing chain guides. A rattle at cold start is the warning sign, and records of a chain replacement are reassuring.

Question 4

Who pays ITP on a private BMW purchase in Valencia?

Accepted Answer

The buyer, who pays it to the Agència Tributària Valenciana before the DGT records the new owner. A dealer sale does not pay ITP.

Question 5

Will Valencia restrict older cars?

Accepted Answer

Spanish law requires cities of over 50,000 inhabitants, Valencia included, to set up low-emission zones where the DGT label decides access. For regular driving in the city, a BMW with the C, ECO or 0 label is the safer choice.
