Do new BMWs still come with a manual gearbox?

Fewer and fewer: most current BMWs in Europe come only with the Steptronic automatic. A manual BMW is therefore usually an older car or one with a smaller engine.

How do I spot a worn dual-mass flywheel on a manual BMW?

A rattle at idle, vibration through the clutch pedal or judder when pulling away are the usual signs. It is most common on diesel BMWs and is normally replaced together with the clutch.

Which BMW models were sold with a manual gearbox?

The 1 Series, 2 Series, 3 Series, X1 and earlier generations of the X3 offered a manual, mostly with four-cylinder engines. Six-cylinder and larger models nearly always came with an automatic.
