What should I check on a used BMW from the Costa del Sol in Málaga?

Strong sun fades paint, cracks dashboards and hardens rubber seals and convertible roofs, so inspect them closely. Salty sea air speeds up corrosion underneath the car and on the brake discs.

Can I buy a right-hand-drive BMW in Málaga?

A UK-plated BMW must be registered in Spain, with an ITV inspection, before a resident can drive it permanently. A right-hand-drive car already on Spanish plates is transferred through the DGT like any other.

Do I need an NIE to buy a BMW in Málaga as a foreigner?

Yes: the DGT records the change of owner against an identity number, and for a foreigner that number is the NIE. Without one, the car cannot be put in your name.
