Question 1

Can an older BMW drive in Barcelona's low-emission zone?

Accepted Answer

The Rondes zone applies on weekdays from 7:00 to 20:00 and keeps out cars with no DGT label. Petrol cars from around 2001 and diesels from around 2006 generally have at least the B label, but the car's DGT record is what counts.

Question 2

What tax do I pay buying a BMW privately in Barcelona?

Accepted Answer

A private sale pays ITP to the Agència Tributària de Catalunya, which the buyer settles before the DGT records the transfer. A dealer sale does not pay ITP.

Question 3

Which BMW suits driving in Barcelona?

Accepted Answer

Compact models such as the 1 Series, the 2 Series Active Tourer or the X1 are easier to park on Barcelona's streets. Electric and plug-in hybrid versions with the 0 or ECO label face no restrictions in the low-emission zone.

Question 4

How often does a BMW need its ITV?

Accepted Answer

A car is exempt for its first four years, then goes every two years until it is ten, and every year after that. The date of the next inspection is on the sticker on the windscreen and in the DGT record.
