Which BMW X4 diesel engine is the best buy?

The xDrive20d is the economical choice and the most common, while the six-cylinder xDrive30d adds refinement and towing ability. The M40d, sold on the G02, is the fastest but the costliest to run.

What should I check on a used BMW X4 diesel?

Ask how the X4 has been driven, since short urban trips clog the particulate filter and EGR valve. On the earliest xDrive20d, a rattle from the timing chain on a cold start deserves a closer look.

Can a BMW X4 diesel enter Spanish low-emission zones?

A Euro 6 diesel X4 carries the C label, which most low-emission zones admit, while an early Euro 5 car carries B and faces more restrictions. Mild-hybrid diesels from around 2020 carry ECO.

From €9,590 to €69,900, half under €34,990 · Typically 2020 with 104,265 km. Diesel is the usual choice in a used X4: the four-cylinder xDrive20d for economy, the straight-six 30d and M40d for pace. Each needs regular motorway runs to keep its particulate filter clean, which matters in Spain's city-centre low-emission zones.
