Question 1

How does the BMW X4 differ from the X3?

Accepted Answer

The X4 uses the X3's platform and engines but has a lower, sloping roof. That gives it a sportier look at the cost of rear headroom, boot space and rear visibility.

Question 2

Which DGT label does a BMW X4 get?

Accepted Answer

Petrol versions and Euro 6 diesels carry the C label. Later diesels with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance qualify for the ECO label, so check the label recorded for the plate if you drive into low-emission zones.

Question 3

What should I check on a BMW X4 with xDrive?

Accepted Answer

The xDrive transfer case is sensitive to differences in tyre size and wear, so all four tyres should be the same model and evenly worn. A jolt or groan when turning slowly on full lock can point to a tired transfer case.

Question 4

Is the annual road tax high on a BMW X4?

Accepted Answer

The IVTM is set by each town hall according to the car's fiscal horsepower. Six-cylinder versions fall into a higher band than the four-cylinder xDrive20d and xDrive20i, so they cost more each year in the same municipality.
