Question 1

Is a plug-in hybrid or electric X1 worth it in Madrid?

Accepted Answer

The CERO label lets them enter the Centro district freely and brings advantages in SER street parking. They pay off only if you can charge at home, at work or near where the car is parked; run without charging, a plug-in hybrid is heavier and thirstier than a petrol X1.

Question 2

Which DGT label does a used BMW X1 get?

Accepted Answer

The iX1 and the plug-in hybrids get CERO, the mild hybrids of the current generation ECO, and most petrol X1s and Euro 6 diesels C. First-generation diesels that meet only Euro 5 get B, which keeps non-residents out of the Centro district unless they park in a car park.

Question 3

Should I worry about the timing chain on a used BMW X1?

Accepted Answer

The N47 diesel in first-generation X1s is known for timing-chain wear, heard as a rattle from the gearbox end of the engine. Ask whether the chain has been replaced, and have any rattle at idle inspected before buying.

Question 4

sDrive or xDrive for Madrid?

Accepted Answer

sDrive drives two wheels, the rear ones on the first generation and the front ones from 2015; xDrive is all-wheel drive. For city driving sDrive is enough, while xDrive helps on winter trips to the Sierra de Guadarrama.
