Question 1

Which DGT label does a used 3 Series get?

Accepted Answer

It depends on fuel and Euro standard. Petrol cars from about 2006 and Euro 6 diesels get C, Euro 4 and 5 diesels get B, and the 330e plug-in hybrid gets ECO or zero depending on its electric range.

Question 2

What should I check on an older BMW 320d?

Accepted Answer

The N47 four-cylinder diesel fitted to many E90 and F30 cars is known for timing chain wear, heard as a rattle from the gearbox end of the engine. Ask for proof of any replacement, as the job usually means taking the engine out.

Question 3

BMW 3 Series saloon or Touring?

Accepted Answer

The Touring estate has the larger boot and a rear window that opens separately, yet drives almost the same. Engines and equipment are shared, so the choice comes down to space.

Question 4

Is there tax to pay when buying a BMW 3 Series from a private seller?

Accepted Answer

Yes, a private sale in Spain pays ITP, a transfer tax whose rate each region sets, while a dealer sale includes VAT instead. The change of owner is then registered with the DGT.
