Does the BMW 1 Series 118d have timing chain problems?

The N47 diesel fitted until 2015 is known for timing chain wear, and the chain sits at the rear of the engine, which makes replacement costly. A rattle from the back of a cold engine is the warning sign; the B47 that replaced it is far less prone.

Which DGT label does a diesel BMW 1 Series get?

Diesels registered from 2015 meet Euro 6 and get the C label, older ones the B label. The mild-hybrid 120d of the F70 generation gets the ECO label.

The E87 and F20, built until 2019, are rear-wheel drive. The F40 and F70 that followed are front-wheel drive, with xDrive all-wheel drive on some versions.
