Which automatic gearbox does the BMW 1 Series have?

The F20 of 2011 to 2019 uses the ZF eight-speed, well regarded for durability. The F40 uses a seven-speed dual-clutch on smaller engines and an eight-speed automatic on the 118d, 120d and M135i, while the F70 uses the dual-clutch throughout.

Is the BMW 1 Series dual-clutch gearbox reliable?

The seven-speed dual-clutch has proved generally sound, though it can feel hesitant at parking speeds. A test drive with repeated stops and starts shows whether it engages cleanly.

Is the new BMW 1 Series available with a manual?

No, the F70 sold from 2024 is automatic only. A manual 1 Series means an F40 or older.
