What should I check on a manual Audi A3?

On diesel A3s, listen for a rattle at idle and feel for judder when pulling away, both signs of a worn dual-mass flywheel. A clutch that only bites at the very top of the pedal travel is close to needing replacement.

Is a manual Audi A3 more reliable than an S tronic?

Generally it has fewer costly failure points, since there is no mechatronic unit or dual clutch to wear. The trade-off is that mild-hybrid and plug-in versions were never offered with a manual.

Does the manual Audi A3 have five or six gears?

Most manual A3s have six speeds, while some smaller engines came with five. Sixth gear lowers revs on the motorway, which matters on long Spanish journeys.

From €1,999 to €99,990, half under €14,990 · Typically 2017 with 131,739 km. A manual A3 sidesteps the S tronic's mechatronic worries, and the six-speed gearbox suits both TFSI and TDI engines. Mild-hybrid and plug-in versions only ever came as automatics, so a manual A3 is never a hybrid.
