Question 1

What should I check on a car that has spent years in the Almería sun?

Accepted Answer

Look at the roof and bonnet for faded or peeling clear coat, at the dashboard for cracks, and at door seals and wiper rubbers for hardening. Run the air conditioning for several minutes: a system that only blows lukewarm will not cope with an Almería summer.

Question 2

Who pays tax on a private car sale in Almería?

Accepted Answer

The buyer pays ITP to the autonomous community where they live, which for an Almería resident is the Junta de Andalucía, based on the tax authority's official valuation of the car. A car bought from a dealer includes VAT in the price and pays no ITP.

Question 3

How do I know when a used car in Almería is due for its ITV?

Accepted Answer

The date of the next inspection is stamped in the ficha técnica and shown on the sticker on the windscreen. A car with a fresh ITV saves an early trip to the station and shows it met the standard recently.

Question 4

Is a work vehicle from Almería's greenhouse farms a good buy?

Accepted Answer

It can be, but pick-ups and vans used in farming often carry dust, fertiliser residue and many short trips on rough tracks. Check the underside, the suspension and the air filter, and look for corrosion where chemicals may have splashed.
